U.F. CAREER RESOURCE CENTER

UF CRCOn the edge of graduation and real life, the possibility of being jobless, moving back home with mom and dad or living in a cardboard box can be overwhelming. Don’t panic! The U.F. Career Resource Center can help.

Located on the first floor of the J. Wayne Reitz Union, it offers FREE career counseling, resume and cover letter tips, workshops, mock interviews in person or online and a database of all job and internship postings from its affiliates. At the heart of the center is a resource lab, which has books on various industries and job tips. CRC also holds career fairs, which attract hundreds of employers and are divided into two days based on the types of industries, and internship fairs throughout the year, which gives students the chance to meet prospective employees and interview for jobs. In today’s society networking is key.

GATOR JOBS

Are bar tabs and school books really eating away at your money? Does the thought of having to call mom and dad for more money irk you? Don’t fret, there are various jobs at the University. Campus jobs are convenient and cater to student’s schedules.Get a Gator job, and ask mom and dad for money less frequently. They will reward your initiative.

CriserThe Student Employment Office, located in S-107 at Criser Hall, assists students in seeking part-time employment at various job programs. Job opportunities exist for students regardless if they are not eligible for financial aid.

Work should not interfere with academics. Students are allowed to work 10 hours to 20 hours a week. They may petition for more with the approval of their academic adviser. If approved, they are allowed to work 31 hours per week. Students cannot work during scheduled classes or exams.

BANKING IN GAINESVILLE

When moving to a new city it is important to consider which bank you will use because not all banks have a local branch in Gainesville and you want to avoid the nuisance of ATM fees. Chase does not yet have a local bank or ATM in the city. The closest one is in Jacksonville, Fla. Many major banks, including Bank of America, Sun Trust and Wells Fargo/ Wachovia, do have at least one local branch in Gainesville.
