Getting around the city of Gainesville is never an issue because it has one best campus and city bus routes, Regional Transit System, around. It also offers cabs, ZIP Cars and Zip Cars too. Explore the Gator Nation via public transportation.


RTSAvailable to locals and students, Regional Transit System takes you to the most common destinations of apartments, campus sites, major shopping areas, downtown and the Gainesville Regional Airport. It has stops all over campuses. View all bus routes and comprehensive schedule. It can be downloaded or picked up at any bus station.

Service is available weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. and reduced services on Saturdays, Sundays, summer semesters and holidays. Service is not available during federal holidays. Most buses run every 10 minutes to 15 minutes on campus and 12 minutes or more off- campus. On late nights during the summer B, fall and spring semesters,

RTS is free to all students with a valid Gator 1. Reasonable fares, one-way tickets, starting from $1.50 for adults, and day passes are available for those who do not have one.

Lessen the emission of fossil fuel into the environment when you share a car. Introduced in the U.S. 10 years ago, Zipcars offers members 24/7 access to various types of cars around the world. Members can pay an annual fee to rent cars by the hour or day, and their annual fees include gas and insurance. Hourly and daily rate depends on model of car. Cars can be reserved online, and membership cards unlock the vehicle.

U.F. students, faculty and staff can join Zipcars for just $35 and receive $35 in free driving during their first month. Cars are located around campus, including outside of Library West. Must be 18-years-old to join. Members who are 18-years-old and up have access to the Zipcars on campus. Members who are 21-years-old and up have access to thousands of cars around the world.

Greyhound Lines, Inc.

Travel anywhere in the U.S. via Greyhound Lines, Inc. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 1-800-231-2222 with a credit card and or at the local bus terminal. If purchasing a ticket online, book in advance to take to receive great deals.

Use RTS Route 15, which runs from the downtown station to Oaks to Gainesville’s mall every 30 minutes to 60 minutes on weekdays starting at 6 a.m. and every hour on Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m., to get to the bus terminal. On Sundays, refer to Route 407.

Florida Buses

wifiGo home or visit friends at Florida State University, University of Central Florida and or University of Southern Florida, when you ride any of these luxury coach buses, which go to most parts of Florida from Tallahassee to Miami. Wi-Fi is available on some buses. Spend a weekend at home or with friends, or have guests visit.

Busses leave on Thursday or Friday from the U.F. Commuter Lot Parking Garage on Gale Lemerand Drive, and return on Sunday or Monday, depending on the bus company.

Tickets can be purchased online or in person. Tickets are non-refundable or transferable, unless a valid excuse beforehand is given.

Each company also has a limit on luggage size and $5 may be charged, if the bag exceeds its set limit.

Please arrive at departure point 30 minutes before it departs. Students can take RTS Route 122, which drops off at the Commuter Lot Parking Garage on Gale Lemerand Drive.

Red Coach offers trips to various cities in Florida, including Jacksonville, Tampa, Gainesville, Tallahassee, Naples, Orlando, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Fort Pierce, Ocala and West Palm Beach, and to Atlanta, Ga. Gainesville is conveniently located a couple of hours away from most major airports, including Jacksonville International and Orlando International Airports. Airport shuttles are available to Gainesville’s airport and these airports from Rawlings Hall, which is across from McCarty Hall. Reserve a your ticket online.If traveling domestically, book a seat on a bus that arrives an hour before departure. If you’re traveling internationally, book a seat on a bus that arrives two hours before your departure.

RunwaysRunways Transportation Company offers services to Orlando’s, Jacksonville’s and Gainesville’s airports. Fares begin at $55 from Gainesville to any of these areas. Refundable and non-refundable tickets can be purchased online.

All passengers are allowed one carry-on item and small suitcase that does not exceed 28 inches by 22 inches by 14 inches.
